The Eikestad Mall in Stellenbosch was yet again evacuated after a bomb threat was received on Wednesday afternoon.

The events were confirmed by the Eikestad Mall Centre Management.

“We confirm a bomb threat was received on 13 March 2019. A call was made to Checkers,” Ronelle le Roux, Marketing Manager at Eikestad Mall, told MatieMedia. “It was decided in conjunction with the SAPS that a partial evacuation needs to be done in order for the K9-units to investigate the premises.”

All shops on the ground floor, from Checkers up to Foschini, were closed down while shops on the first floor, from Bargain Books to Truworths, were also evacuated.

Le Roux confirmed that no persons were injured during the incident. The all-clear was given from police at 14h00, and business continued as normal.

Le Roux thanked all staff and public involved for their co-operation.  “The Mall is a place of trading, but our tenants, staff, customers and the general public are our first priority. Safety comes first,” she said.

This is the third bomb threat in Stellenbosch within the last two weeks. The previous incident had taken place just two days before, on 11 March 2019.
