Meet your prims: Stellenbosch Campus Residences

Many of Stellenbosch University’s (SU) ‘off-campus’ students do not know who the Stellenbosch campus Residence Prims of 2019 are. A Residence Prim (Primaria for women and Primarius for men) is the head of a student residence and runs the residence alongside the House Committee. A Prim contributes to the atmosphere of residence and campus life. Meet SU’s Residence Prims:

Meet Maties Soccer Captain and Prim of Huis Neethling, Courtney Williams. Courtney is 23 years old and is “originally from Ottery, Kaapstad represent!” Courtney says his left leg is longer than his right.

 

Harmonie

Lauren Haupt will be 23 this year and is from Bellville, Cape Town. “When I was around 7 years old, I had two birds and would sing “I’m like a Bird” (by Nelly Furtado) to them every night because I thought it would help them sleep,” she says.

Charise Ramoshaba (21) hails from Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. “I always eat my dessert before my main course. That’s because when I was young, I’d always get too full from the main and then not have enough space for dessert,” said Ramoshaba.

Industrial Engineering student, Michael Burke (20), is originally from Somerset West and plays the saxophone for the band Uncle Spike.

Huis Visser Prim, Stefan Janse van Vuuren (22), is known to have a serious case of middle-child syndrome. His hometown is Uitenhage, Eastern Cape.

22-year-old Anri Magerman is from Eerste River, Cape Town and is known to be a serious Sims fan. “I love watching YouTube videos where gamers play “Sims 4”, I [also] secretly play “Sims 3” in class,” adds Anri.

Johannesburg’s 20-year-old Unopachido Mubaiwa was quite the mischievous child. “When I was in grade one, my best friend at the time and I broke into our teacher’s classroom and stole Chomps! That was the most savage thing I’ve ever done. I got caught though, but my mom just laughed.”

Fisherman, golfer and cricketer Prim Danté de Wet (23) is originally from Johannesburg. This is his fifth year being part of the Maties Varsity Athletics Squad. His discipline is javelin throw.

Hermanus’ Mika Engelbrecht (22) is Prim of Serruria. She is “potentially, hopefully, soon-to-be a winemaker”.  Engelbrecht is known to be a serious reader, hiker, beach-goer and maker or baker of food.

Jenna Makin (21), Primaria at Nemesia, is from Durbanville, Cape Town. “Some fun facts: my surname rhymes with bacon so my nickname is Jennamakinbacon. I have cat ears tattooed on my wrist, I love “makin” people laugh –  see what I did there – and I really hope to leave this world better than I found it,” she says.

Adriaan de Lange (22) is from Durbanville, Cape Town and isn’t as sour as he sometimes looks. He is, in actual fact, the “king of lame jokes” and even manages to laugh at his own jokes.

Cassandra Dulcie Pengelley aka ‘Cassie’ (21) was born on the 3rd of March 1998 and is from Port Elizabeth. “The top of my ring finger was cut completely off, the night before my eighth birthday,” adds Cassie. Luckily for her, the tip was sewn back on and her finger is fully functional.
