A golfer from Jamestown, Stellenbosch, is currently taking part in her first women’s professional golf tournament.
Cassidy Williams participated in the first phase of the Sunshine Ladies Tour – Cape Town Ladies Open – which took place on 7 April, according to Williams.
The second weekend of the Sunshine Ladies Tour teed off with the Jabra Ladies Open in Johannesburg on 14 April, according to Williams.
She was very excited to participate in the first tournament of the season, Williams told MatieMedia, adding that her “head was all over the place”. The Cape Town Open was a chance to “get the knack of things” and to get comfortable, she said. It was also, she added, “an opportunity to figure out how I operate during tournament times”.

“I feel much more confident heading up to Johannesburg,” said Williams before traveling to Johannesburg.
It runs in the family
Williams is not the only golfer in her family. Another prominent Stellenbosch golfer, and first cousin of Williams, Keenan Davidse, is currently participating in the Sunshine Men’s Tour.
“We spoke about this – both of us playing on the Sunshine Tour – when we’re all grown up,” said Davidse. “So it means a lot coming from dreaming as a child that we would both play on tour.”

“It has been phenomenal to see Cassidy progress through the ranks from a top amateur golfer in Boland to now chasing her dreams as a professional player,” said Murray Smit, Williams’ coach.
Williams started playing amateur golf from 11 years old and debuted as a professional in 2020. If Williams is successful on the Sunshine Ladies Tour, “the sky’s the limit” from there, according to Smit.
“In five years, I see myself playing internationally and based in the [United] States [of America],” said Williams on her dreams beyond the Sunshine Ladies Tour.
