Nikola Vlok set to shake things up at Endless Daze 2019

This year’s festival season has begun and will showcase some trailblazing local acts. One act is self-identified feminist fairy Nikola Vlok who’ll be performing at this year’s Psych Night & Vans Present Endless Daze.

She is a visual artist, producer and musician.

Vlok is featured on the line-up at Endless Daze this year and will be performing alongside international acts such as Boogarins, Night Beat and L.A. Witch.

“I am beyond thankful and honoured to be part of something so genuine,” says Vlok.

Vlok describes her introduction into music as a 180 flip in her life.

“Through music, I have learnt and am still learning; empathy, to trust my instincts, to dance, to love without attachment and most importantly that humans are multidimensional beings and our state of mind is able to give off physical frequencies,” says Vlok.

Vlok describes her music as a cross-pollination of various genres.

“Angry dream pop that wants to be funk, but has too many feelings. I have so many influences and muses that I don’t think I will ever settle in one style,” says Vlok about her musical style.

She taught herself to produce music and says it happened after an ex left her for someone else.

“Thick kicks and spicy snares became my new lovers,” she says.

Her musical inspirations range from a mixture of genres.

“Grimes, Björk and Alice Phoebe Lou have been my major musical deities and teachers. Grimes taught me self empowerment through dank beats, Björk taught me the health benefits of screaming orgasmically, and Alice taught me how to be soft and gentle, without allowing people to walk over you,” says Vlok.

Vlok’s first album was released earlier this year. She describes the album as “introspective-masturbation-art” inspired by Felix La Band and Radiohead.

“My next album will be completely different, inspired more by feel-good dance like Idris Muhammad and The Chemical Brothers,” says Vlok.

She says she is excited about this year’s Endless Daze and encourages festival-goers to check out her performance.

“I love entertaining people, being silly and goofy and laughing. If I’m feeling myself the crowd will reflect that back to me,” says Vlok.

On her future plans, Vlok hopes to venture internationally.

“I want to build on the SA creative scene for future generations because let’s face it, not everyone can afford to fly to Berlin to find themselves creatively while living the bohemian dream,” says Vlok.

The Endless Daze festival is happening from the 1st to the 3rd of November this year at the Silwerstroom Resort.
