Fresh start for Adam & Eve Collab

The reopening of The Adam and Eve Collab on Dorp Street on 1 August will help to create much-needed job opportunities for local brands and for the Stellenbosch community. This was according to the owner, Danneel Stone.

“From the cleaners to the manufacturers – all these jobs this one store has created, is something we really need now,” said Stone.

This market-style store, which showcases several local brands under its roof, was previously located within The Trumpet Tree restaurant

When The Trumpet Tree restaurant closed permanently in May, The Adam and Eve Collab temporarily relocated to Courtyard Cafe, explained Stone.

However, he was eager for the business to have its own space again.

“Dorp Street is a great place for retail and it’s where we started. I wanted to move back and build on what we were doing before,” said Stone.

The fresh look of The Adam and Eve Collab is something Stellenbosch has not seen before, Stone said.

“We want to give customers a type of market-stall experience, where people can shop local brands and order a coffee and a pastry,” he said.

A new look

Jess Katz, the owner of Pretty Casual, a popular brand stocked at The Adam and Eve Collab, is looking forward to the store’s new look.

“We are excited for customers to walk into the same shop but have a completely different experience,” said Katz.

The partnership between Pretty Casual and The Adam and Eve Collab has continued over the past two years, as the local store and brand share similar business principles, like supporting local entrepreneurs, Katz said.

“We are grateful to be a part of someone’s passion to support and showcase exclusively local South African brands,” said Katz.

A local hang-out

One of the customers at the reopening, Catharina van der Mescht, thinks that the concept will be popular amongst students because of the store’s market-like feel.

“It’s nice that you can go there, meet a friend, have a coffee and watch Dorp Street go past,” she said.

Van der Mescht added that the store is like going to a market which is an all-in-one convenient location.

Update: A previous version of this article incorrectly attributed the baked goods for sale at The Adam and Eve Collab to Eight Feet. Instead, Quite A Few Crumbs provided these products. We apologise for these errors.
